A Letter to my Niece
Dear Delta James,
All I wanted for Christmas was to find out that I was going to be an aunt. I told my mom about this wish and she said there are some things that can’t be bought for Christmas. What did this mean??? Was I getting a niece or what? On Christmas Eve when I was opening a box with my brother of what we assumed to just be our Christmas pajamas, I noticed something written on the back of my shirt, “Auntie B / 8.5.2016.” I have never felt so much bliss than in that moment.
You, sweet little one, are already so spoiled, and there is nothing wrong with that. I literally want to buy every little thing I see for you, but sometimes I have to stop myself. Your mom on the other hand, she has a hard time stopping herself. Don’t worry, you’re already set for cute clothes when you’re two. I didn’t think you would be a girl, but I am so glad that you are. My bank account is having a hard time keeping up with you and you’re not even here yet. If I can predict one thing about you (and be certain of it), you will be the best looking child around town. Quite honestly, you already are and you’re not even here yet. You’ve got one stylish mom, so stylish that I used to steal her clothes from her closet, but that is beside the point.
I have never had the chance to truly watch a person grow from a baby, to a toddler, to a child, to a teen, to a young woman -- I am so excited. I haven’t met you, but I know of one person who has extraordinary plans for you and I have no doubt that you fulfill of His plans for you. You are capable of greatness! You have a mission in this world already and you have full control over your own destiny. You’re a child of a King. There will never be anything in this world that can fill what He can in your heart. With that being said, boys suck. I can only hope that you will feel comfortable enough to come to your mom or me or my mom (your grandma -- who hasn’t chosen her grandma name yet) whenever you have problems with boys. One thing I hope you will grow to learn is that you are so valuable regardless of what people try to say. There are people that will try to suck the sunshine out of you, but don’t let them do that. You are soon going to be the light of so many lives in this world, don’t let anyone put a lampshade over you.
You are already so valuable. Don’t ever settle for anything that doesn’t bring you joy. I hope you never ever think that you aren’t loved enough because your parents and your family love you immensely already and nothing will change that. I may not know you yet, but I am already willing to do anything for you. I can’t wait to meet you, beautiful girl.
Be strong. Be bold. Be fierce.
Auntie B
PS: Please come a few days early.
